Selected doodles featuring Speaker Red characters

Being a sad adult juggling a full-time job and parenting, my approach to improving my art skills revolves around rapid, rough doodles. As a result of which, I doodle A LOT. While most of these sketches are far from perfect (or even acceptable), I’ve chosen a few favorites to share. The selection is very personal and not quality-based.

First of all I enjoy shipping a lot, both while creating and when appreciating the creations of others. Speaker Red showcases some slow-burn but, in my opinion, healthy relationships. However, it burns way too slow. I don’t mind spoiling it through some sketches since it’s quite obvious anyway.

I also do a lot of reference studies using the characters. Most of the times serious anatomy studies etc, but to make the practice more interesting, I look for fun reference photos that match the characters’ personalities. One of my favorite types of reference is silly teen group photos and memes.

Of course often I just draw purely from imagination. Sometimes I experiment with new techniques, such as fisheye perspective. At times, I can see how these sketches reflect my mood. Whereas other times they seem not to have a clear inspiration, or maybe they come from somewhere so subconscious that I am not aware of.

BTW, here is some very random lore
